A friendly starting point for home ed in Ireland
home-ed.ie gathers the groups, meet-ups and days out that home educating families in Ireland already love — in one warm, easy place to look.
When you first start home educating here, the hardest part often isn't the learning. It's finding your people. The information is real, but it's scattered — across Facebook groups, word of mouth, half-remembered recommendations and the odd PDF. You end up asking the same questions everyone asks, in five different places.
This site is an attempt to gather it all somewhere kinder: a growing directory of local groups and support networks, family days out and activities, and — over time — plain-English guides to the practical side of home educating in Ireland.
Who's behind it
Hi — I'm Laura. We moved from the UK to Mayo for a quieter, more rural life, and we've home educated our daughter since she left pre-school at five. home-ed.ie is made by me, not a company. It comes from walking those same first steps — the nerves, the endless questions, the relief of finding a meet-up where the kids just click.
When we started, I kept wishing for one friendly place that pulled all of this together. So I built it. There are no ads to chase and nothing to sign up for — it's just the resource I wish I'd had at the start.
How it works
The directory is community-built. Families submit the groups and places they rate, and every listing is read by a real person before it goes live — so what you find here is checked, not scraped. It's free, and the details you share when you submit (your name and email) are only used to check with you, never published.
It's early days, and coverage is strongest in the west of Ireland for now — it grows with every submission. If you know a group, a class or a brilliant day out that isn't here yet, that's the most useful thing you can do:
