A friendly hub for home educators in Ireland
Home Ed Ireland brings together the groups, meet-ups and days out that home educating families in Ireland already love, all in one easy place.
When you first start home educating here, the hard part usually isn't the learning. It's finding your people. Maybe you're the only home educating family you know of in your area, or you've moved here from somewhere else and you're starting from scratch. The information is out there, but it's scattered: across Facebook groups, WhatsApp chats, word of mouth, half-remembered recommendations and the odd PDF. You end up asking the same questions everyone asks, in five different places, clicking through the same threads to find the one thing that suits.
This is my attempt to pull it all together. A growing directory of local groups and support networks, family days out and activities, and, in time, guides to the practical side of home educating in Ireland. Somewhere you can find what you need without the endless scroll.
Who's behind it
Hi, I'm Laura. We moved from the UK to Mayo in 2022, my husband, my daughter and me, for a quieter life: more rural, more nature, more community. We're loving it. Our daughter has been home educated since she left preschool, and we're thriving.
Home Ed Ireland is made by me, not a company. It comes from walking those same first steps myself: the nerves, the endless questions, the wondering whether you're the only one, the relief of finding a meet-up where the kids just click.
When we started, I kept wishing something like this already existed. So I built it. There are no ads, and nothing to sign up for. It's simply the resource I wish I'd had at the start.
How it works
Home Ed Ireland is by home-ed families, for home-ed families. It's community-built, it's free, and the details you share when you submit (your name and email) are only ever used to check back with you, never published.
Whether you're just starting out or you've been at this for years, the most useful thing you can do is share what you've found. If you know a group, a class or a brilliant day out that isn't here yet, add it. And if you'd like to write something — a guide, an article, the kind of thing you wish someone had handed you at the beginning — I would genuinely love to hear from you.
