Your privacy, no jargon
Home Ed Ireland is a small community resource, not a data business. Here's exactly what happens with any information you share.
Home Ed Ireland is run by Laura, a home educating parent in Ireland, who's responsible for the information collected here (the "data controller"). Any questions, just email hello@home-ed.ie.
When you add a listing
The submission form asks for two kinds of information:
- The listing details (the group or activity name, description, county, a website link, and — if you choose to add one — a contact email). If it's approved, all of this appears in the public directory, contact email included — that's the whole point of submitting it.
Only add a contact email you're happy to have shown publicly. It appears on the listing for anyone to see.
- Your name and your (submitter) email — both optional. These are separate from anything above and are never published. They're only used to check back with you if a detail needs clarifying before your listing goes live, so they're worth adding if you're happy to be contacted.
How long we keep it
Approved listing details stay in the directory for as long as the listing is live. Your name and email are kept only as long as we need them to look after that listing — ask us to remove it and we delete the personal details you sent with it. Submissions we decide not to publish aren't kept.
When you sign up for the newsletter
If you sign up for our email updates, we ask for your email address and the counties you'd like to hear about, and nothing else. We use them for one thing: to send you our monthly "What's on" email of home-education events in the counties you picked.
We only start sending once you click the confirmation link we email you, so you're always the one who opts in. You can unsubscribe from any email in one click, and we delete your details when you do. We don't use them for anything else.
Who handles your data
We keep things lean and rely on a few trusted services to run the site:
- Cloudflare — hosts the site and routes email sent to
hello@home-ed.ieto our inbox. Like any host, its servers process standard technical data (such as your IP address) to serve the site securely. - Brevo — the service we send email through, so replies reach you from
hello@home-ed.ie. - Cloudflare Turnstile — a privacy-friendly check that keeps bots off the form without tracking you across the web.
- MailerLite — an EU-based email service we use to send the newsletter, if you've signed up for it. It stores your email and county choices on our behalf, and every newsletter includes basic open and click stats and a one-click unsubscribe.
We don't sell or share your details with anyone else, run advertising trackers, or profile you — and we'll only email you about a listing you submitted, or send the newsletter if you asked for it.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted — including having your listing changed or removed. Just email hello@home-ed.ie and we'll sort it, usually within a few days. If you're ever unhappy with how your data's been handled, you can also contact the Irish Data Protection Commission.
