Write for Home Ed Ireland

If you've worked something out — how you registered, how you find your rhythm, the places your kids love — the next family would love to hear it.

The most useful things I've read about home educating in Ireland didn't come from experts. They came from other parents, a few steps ahead, saying "here's what actually happened when we tried this." That's what I'd love this site to be full of — and it only works if families like you share what you know.

What you could write

Guides

Practical how-to guides

The how-to bits — registering with Tusla, choosing an approach, settling into a rhythm, the socialisation question. Clear and honest, from someone who's lived it.

Stories

Your story

How you started, a day in your home-ed life, what you'd tell yourself at the very beginning. First-person and real — the piece you wish you'd found.

Days out

Days out & reviews

Somewhere you took the kids that was worth it (or wasn't). First-hand, so other families know what to expect before they go.

Local

County spotlights

What home-ed looks like where you are — the groups, the days out, the local tips only someone on the ground would know.

You don't need to be a writer

Honestly, you don't. A rough draft, a voice note, or a handful of bullet points is plenty to start with — I'll help shape it from there. What matters is that it's true to your experience and useful to the next family. Nothing goes live until you've seen it and you're happy with it, and your name goes on it — or doesn't, if you'd rather stay behind the scenes. Your call, always.

How it works

  1. 1
    Send me your idea

A line or two on what you'd like to write. No commitment, and no perfect pitch needed.

  2. 2
    We shape it together

I'll help with structure and edits, at whatever pace suits you. No deadlines, no pressure.

  3. 3
It goes live, with your byline

Published for families across Ireland to find — with credit to you, and a link to your own website or socials if you'd like one.

What your byline shows

Every piece carries a short, friendly bio — nothing more than you're happy to share. Usually that's just your first name and county, how many children you have and their ages, and how long you've been home educating. Something like:

Aoife, Co. Mayo — home educating three children (4, 7 and 9) for five years.

And, if you'd like, a link to your own website, blog or socials. No surnames, no addresses — nothing you'd rather keep to yourself.

Is it paid?

No — Home Ed Ireland is a community project, with no ads and nothing to sell. There's no fee for writing, and none for reading. What you get is knowing that somewhere, a family started their home-ed journey a little less alone because you took the time to share what you learned.
