A handsome 15th-century tower house on the shore of Lough Leane, just outside Killarney. A guided tour takes you up through the castle, with the legend of O'Donoghue Mor, who's said to rise from the lake on a white horse every seven years. Boat trips and lakeside walks start right at the door. Tours are guided only and can fill up, and there are steep stairs. An OPW site, open March to November.
