The big castle in the middle of Kilkenny, with fifty acres of free riverside parkland and a playground wrapped around it. Children can run the grounds and the walled rose garden for nothing, and the castle interior has the restored Long Gallery with its painted timber roof and rows of portraits. Under-12s go into the castle free. The parkland suits all ages, and the castle rooms are better from about 6 up.
