Cycle or scoot in bite-size chunks, the Athlone Marina to Moate stretch is a handy family section, crossing old railway bridges through open midlands countryside. It links the River Shannon to the Royal Canal. Free, with trailhead parking at Athlone Marina and Mullingar. Pick a short section for younger legs.
